# MCA benchmarks

> Evaluate merchant cash advances through receipts, remittances, reconciliation and contractual outcomes.

Evaluate the actual merchant agreement. Preserve whether remittances vary with receipts, use a fixed collection mechanism or allow contractual reconciliation. Do not assume that every advance has an amortizing loan schedule.

## Financial-risk measures

| Measure | Definition and comparison rule |
| - | - |
| Eligible receipts | Supported sales receipts after contract-defined exclusions, with refunds and reversals identified. |
| Remittance burden | Actual remittances divided by eligible receipts over the same window. Identify other supported financing obligations. |
| Receipt volatility | Dispersion and downside changes over a stated period, with seasonality and channel coverage controlled. |
| Collection coverage | Actual collections relative to the contractual amount due or eligible share, including valid reconciliations. |
| Performance outcome | Contract-defined shortfall, breach, restructuring or realized loss, each measured separately. |

Avoid treating a lower remittance caused by a valid receipts adjustment as a missed fixed loan installment. A factor rate, purchased-receivables amount and annualized borrowing cost describe different quantities.

## Public benchmark sources

[ISED's financing survey](https://www.ised-isde.canada.ca/site/sme-research-statistics/en/survey-data-and-analysis/credit-conditions-survey) provides broader Canadian business-financing context. It is not an MCA-specific performance panel. This collection does not assign a universal MCA default rate or remittance cutoff from aggregate small-business lending data.

For an MCA comparison, record agreement terms, receipts coverage, vintage, observation horizon and mature collections. Public financing records in the [source inventory](https://docs.amlok.io/research/canadian-data.md) must be classified by the financing structure their evidence actually supports.

## AMLOK evaluation

Test the reconciliation chain from commerce orders to processor payments, settlements and bank deposits. A sale appearing in four systems is one economic event. Measure matching precision, missed matches, duplicate revenue and unexplained settlement differences.

Use a merchant-level temporal holdout. Evaluate forecast or classification errors under the same receipt window and agreement terms. For Signal, measure persistent receipts changes, new supported obligations and unusual remittance patterns. Distinguish processor outages from declining sales.
